Description

As a Development Manager this role is responsible for leading smart and passionate developers and quality assurance team members, managing the day-to-day development actives and ensuring timely world-class releases in an Agile environment. This role advocates for the product, the department and its members. This position is responsible for providing superior leadership for the department team assignments and focuses on performance management and department improvements for 20+ employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees development of the product, ensures quality and removes impediments from teams to ensure projects are completed in a timely fashion
  • Responsible for Development and Quality Assurance team members and ensures clear expectations are specified and followed-through for assigned development teams
  • Collaborate with Community and Documentation teams to ensure timely and effective communication with external stakeholders, including cPanel customers, partners, and users
  • Monitor and provide reports to executive team on projects and the health of multiple teams
  • Monitor public and internal data that indicate product quality and usage and makes recommendations to the director of DevOps
  • Develops strategies and processes for the development pipeline from code creation to testing and infrastructure automation
  • Manage and lead software developers and quality assurance. Evaluates performance, sets goals and guides career growth.
  • Responsible for oversight of creating effective development standards and adhering to coding and development standards and practices provided by cPanel
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the company

Leadership and Management Responsibilities:

  • Performance management including coaching, counseling, mentoring, tracking of performance and providing effective performance evaluations utilizing Reflektive to build a feedback culture to drive employee performance and growth
  • Assists direct reports in developing new skills and enhancing current skill sets
  • Proactively seeks to improve department under supervision, including providing employees specific goals and objectives, and provides guidance on how to achieve them
  • Responsible for developing department budgets, forecasting financial needs, staying within budget parameters as set by CEO and meeting company financial objectives
  • Timely follow-through on communication internally and externally including email, tickets, and one on one meetings
  • Displays ongoing empathy and appreciation to employees and earns the confidence of the department by understanding the needs of the employee and department, while providing a safe place for employees to express themselves
  • Maintains the ability to autonomously handle employee issues while regularly collaborating with ESD and other executives/managers

  • Strong Communication and Presentation Skills - advanced level of experience and knowledge presenting interdepartmentally and to various levels of management; highly effective oral and communication skills, checking for understanding; able to communicate effectively in all written work, utilizing proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Business Acumen - Strong analytic skills, advanced knowledge of product strategy and development, including in coordination with the Product Development executives, the ability to maintain the product roadmap

    • Familiarity with multiple programming disciplines ex:

      • Javascript

      • PHP
    • Experience with Linux system administration
  • Education/Experience - Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience
    • Four+ years experience in software development
    • Two+ years experience in system administration
    • Two+ years of successful management experience with a focus on teams or other related experience
    • Experience working with Agile/Scrums teams
  • Travel - Local and/or overnight travel, some by interstate air, may be required

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Ability to work in an office environment. Specific abilities required by this job include: Ability to occasionally move up to 20 pounds; Near vision; hearing; ability to transport oneself as needed throughout the day; ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal, for extended periods of time; manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination); repetitive arm/hand movements

cPanel is a 24/7 operation and nontraditional or extended hours (including weekends) may be required
