Position Overview:

The Global Compensation & Benefits Director has the primary responsibility to steer the total rewards strategy at scale for the company, focusing on the outcome of attracting and retaining global top talent. This role will be responsible for the overhaul, design, execution, ongoing evaluation, and administration of compensation and benefits programs, policies, and processes that span the global landscape. The individual will partner with external vendors, the global HR team, and internal stakeholders to drive the necessary changes needed to optimize the ROI of all the company’s compensation and benefit programs, while providing value to the employees and supporting the organization’s business goals and strategic company objectives. This role is accountable for ensuring all programs are in compliance with company policies and federal, state, country, and other relevant local laws and regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides leadership, strategic direction, implementation, and administration of a comprehensive global compensation and benefits strategy, programs, and policies, while ensuring alignment with the organization’s business goals and objectives
  • Designs a benefit and compensation infrastructure to implement benefit plans and job leveling and global grading; evolving health and welfare plans, defined benefit and contribution plans, unemployment, disability, PTO, leaves, and rewards and recognitions; developing global base pay structures, salary ranges, long-term and short-term incentives, pay-for-performance plans, annual merit, executive compensation, and retention and promotion plans
  • Partners with HR and Finance for effective decision-making to develop benefit and compensation budgets for multiple global locations, using cost/benefit analysis, metrics, and data to ensure the budgets fully support and drive program initiatives
  • Acts as the primary expert on domestic and international compensation and benefits; advising HR, Finance, managers and executives on all related matters including M&A due diligence and post-integration, risk mitigation, and promotion and off-cycle increases
  • Leads benchmarking, survey analysis, and analytics to elevate understanding of the company’s competitiveness globally with a view toward evolving our compensation and benefits programs over time; plans and coordinates the process to participate in external compensation surveys, compensation studies, and benchmarking tools to ensure the company maintains a competitive position in the global market
  • Builds relationships and manages partnership with benefit brokers, PEO, and other external vendors to build and optimize an effective compensation and benefit strategy; drives premium renewal negotiations and works with the broker to interpret and analyze participation, utilization and claims information, incorporating findings into future benefits design and company financial planning processes
  • Manages broker relationships and partners with them to continually review plan design for effectiveness, compliance, and consistency with market trends
  • Determines metrics that support the evaluation and tracking of the effectiveness of new and current global compensation and benefit programs and initiatives; administers routine program maintenance to ensure equity and fairness
  • Oversees the communication of compensation, benefits, and wellness related information, with the goal of achieving growth in employee awareness and comprehension, and an increase in participation in the programs offered
  • Participates in preparing compensation materials for presentations, proposals, and business cases for C-level; some presenting to the BOD
  • Provides consistent governance, compliance, and general oversight of domestic and global benefits and compensation, seeking counsel with internal legal department when needed

Additional Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Stays current in job knowledge, participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations
  • Other tasks and initiatives as assigned
  • Consults with internal and external legal and accounting, as appropriate


  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience
  • 4-5 years minimum experience as a Compensation & Benefit Senior Manager or Director (individual or combined experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in design and administration in broad-based global compensation, equity, executive pay, and incentive plan strategy.
  • 2+ years of experience with mergers and acquisitions and Board interaction experience
  • 3+ years of benefits design and plan negotiation with PEO or in-house working with benefit brokers
  • 1-2 years of sales compensation program design, implementation, and administration
  • Strong analytic ability and advanced skills with analytical tools, especially MS Excel; mastery of formula-based functions such as v-lookups, data manipulation, and pivot tables
  • Preferred experience in Job Leveling and Global Grading and global/multi-country implementation experience; USA 500 employee-base at minimum
  • Experience in design and implementation of compensation and benefit structures across multiple geographies
  • Advanced certification(s) in compensation (CCP, CEP, GRP, or CECP) and benefits (CEBS or CBP) preferred
  • Experience working with Workday and compensation management tools (like Towers/Watson REWARD) highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Mercer, Radford, Compensia, and other global compensation and benefit providers and tools
  • Experience in executive compensation and long-term incentive programs a plus

  • Compliance: Ability to determine and ensure compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local laws and regulations with a focus on the FLSA, ADA, FMLA, EEOC, and knowledgeable about existing and proposed legislation
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize and to use time effectively in an unsupervised fashion, able to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrates excellent judgment, high level decision-making skills and strong skills in achieving maximum organizational performance and efficiencies

  • Technical Skills: Strong skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint (iWorks - Numbers,Pages a plus); ability to quickly learn and adapt to internal systems
  • Travel: Frequent travel may be required at times, including some international travel.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Ability to work in an office environment. Specific abilities required by this job include: Ability to occasionally lift and carry or move up to 20 pounds; Near vision; hearing; ability to transport oneself as needed throughout the day; ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal, for extended periods of time; manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination); repetitive arm/hand movements
