About the Role

The Security Engineer II is responsible for planning and deploying security measures to protect cPanel infrastructure, and is responsible for communicating with internal and external reporters of security concerns on cPanel infrastructure.


These are the essential duties for which you'll be responsible
  • Identify, evaluate, deploy and administer hardware and software that enables cPanel to proactively secure cPanel infrastructure
  • Regularly monitor automated security notifications from cPanel infrastructure, and take steps to ensure the volume is reasonable and useful
  • Collaborate with the Systems Administration team to keep cPanel infrastructure up to date
  • Identify opportunities, and work with the Systems Engineering Manager to improve cPanel security operational practices
  • Quickly evaluate and respond to security reports from external parties and escalate to management in cases where the report has a high level of severity
  • Scan and evaluate Internal Development and 3rd party applications for security vulnerabilities.
  • Contribute knowledge from personal analysis to company databases
  • Share web application development best practices with Internal Developers
  • From time to time perform code reviews for SDI Development teams for security-related concerns
  • Assists Security Engineer III in designing and deploying frameworks for controls and levels of access

These are the skills, requirements, and experience we require
  • Education & Experience:
    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • 4 - 6 years of Security Engineer, or equivalent, experience
  • Project Management skills - able to perform all aspects of software development lifecycle, including requirements, development, quality assurance, and documentation
  • Oral Communication - able to speak clearly and effectively in positive or negative situations
  • Written Communication - able to communicate effectively in all written work, utilizing proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Time Management - able to use time effectively under limited supervision; able to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Planning/Organizing Skills - able to prioritize work activities, use time efficiently and work through projects and tasks in a self-motivated manner
  • Adaptability - able to adapt to changes in the work environment and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
  • Computer Knowledge - strong knowledge of word processing software; strong knowledge of electronic communication systems; able to navigate the internet
  • Problem Solving Skills - able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully; able to apply independent judgment on a regular basis in making decisions
  • Interpersonal Skills - able to interact with co-workers and customers in a professional and effective manner
  • Technical Skills -
    • Able to identify vulnerabilities in Web Application projects, such as XSS, CSRF, SQL Injection and others and timely communicate to development teams
    • Strong working knowledge of SQL syntax and usage
    • Strong working knowledge of web development technologies including Javascript, Ajax, and jQuery
    • Strong working knowledge of Linux and underlying components and hosting related services such as: Web Servers (Apache, nginx, etc), Mail Servers (Exim, Sendmail, etc.), and DNS Servers (BIND, NSD, etc.)
    • Familiar with MySQL database administration, including database replication
  • Travel - Occasional local and overnight travel may be required, some by interstate air
