The Site Reliability Engineer I position provides the opportunity for developing the required skills and knowledge to be able to rapidly deploy applications, ensure acceptable performance and reliability of cPanel infrastructure, and become a point of escalation for the Systems Administration team. The Site Reliability Engineer I is tasked with learning and gaining any necessary skills that are not yet acquired and advancing to the next job level, within a short amount of time. The person in this role will also be responsible for working on both Systems Administration and DevOps tasks, all while effectively collaborating with members of the Systems Administration, Site Reliability Engineeringand DevOps Teams. 


These are the essential duties required of the position
 

 Participate in deploying internal and 3rd party applications

  • Automate system and application development using Puppet or similar configuration management tools
  • Sit on and be a contributing member of the DevOps Scrum Team, length of time determined by manager
  • Develop, configure and maintain systems and application monitoring using Nagios, collectd, and other in-house tools
  Establish experience monitoring and ensures acceptable performance and reliability of cPanel Infrastructure
  • Install, monitor, and configure company servers
  • Sit on and be a contributing member of the SysAdmin team, length of time determined by manager
  • Updates Puppet manifests and code related code consistent with standards prepared by the Systems Administration team, as needed
  • Provides timely turnaround and effective communication for tickets opened by internal customers
  • Effectively communicates with internal customers in relation to troubleshooting, fixing, and deployment of systems
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the company

Additional Duties and Job Responsibilities: 
  • Adheres to coding and development standards and practices provided by cPanel
  • Prepares ad hoc reports for management and company executives
These are the skills, requirements, and experience we require
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of Systems Administration experience
  • Two years of software development or automation experience
  • Technical Skills - 
    • Advanced Linux administration experience: Linux, Apache/nginx/HAProxy, MySQL/MariaDB, iptables
      • Strong working knowledge and demonstrated ability with Perl, Ruby, Python, or similar scripting languages
    • Experience with writing monitoring tests to use with Nagios or other monitoring software
    • Experience working with virtualization platform, EC2, VMware, Xen, or KVM
    • Working knowledge of automating system deployment and maintenance using Puppet, Chef, or similar automation tools
  • Iterative Development - Comfort with Scrum, or other agile methodologies is a plus
  • Communication skills - able to effectively transfer thoughts and express ideas written or verbally in individual or group situations; presents oneself clearly and articulately when speaking; checks for understanding
  • Problem Solving skills - able to take a logical approach to address problems or opportunities or manage the situation at hand by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience bases
  • Time Management - able to manage work time in such a manner that ensures the accomplishment of specific objectives; sets priorities, goals, and timetables to achieve maximum productivity
  • Attention to Detail - able to accomplish a task with concern for all the areas involved, carefully monitoring the detail and quality of own work
  • Results Oriented - has a concern for achieving or surpassing results against an internal or external standard or objective
  • Interpersonal skills - able to get along with others effectively
  • Conflict resolution - able to bring disagreements into the open and attempts to manage them collaboratively
  • Travel -  Occasional local and/or overnight travel may be required, some by interstate air
