Position Overview: 

The Development Manager is responsible for ensuring timely releases through management of and advocation for the cPanel Development Department. This position is responsible for providing superior leadership for the department and focuses on performance management and department improvements for 50+ employees. 

Essential Functions:         

  • Oversees product development, removes impediments from teams to ensure projects are completed in a timely fashion
  • Medium of communication between Development and other departments
  • Ensures proper expectations are set with developers, managers, and for executives
  • Collaborate with Community and Documentation teams to ensure timely and effective communication with cPanel customers, partners, and users
  • Monitor and provide reports to executive team on projects and team health
  • Manage and lead software developers. Evaluates performance, sets goals and guides career growth
  • Responsibility for department's overall performance and development
  • Adheres to coding and development standards and practices provided by cPanel
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the company
  • Exemplifies the Core Values of Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, and Follow-Through

Leadership and Management Responsibilities

  • Performance management including coaching, counseling, mentoring, tracking of performance and providing effective performance evaluations
  • Assists direct reports in developing new skills and enhancing current skill sets 
  • Proactively seeks to improve department under supervision, including providing employees specific goals and objectives, and provides guidance on how to achieve them
  • Responsible for developing department budgets, forecasting financial needs, staying within budget parameters as set by CEO and meeting company financial objectives
  • Timely follow-through on communication internally and externally including email, tickets, and one on one meetings
  • Displays ongoing empathy and appreciation to employees and earns the confidence of the department by understanding the needs of the employee and department, while providing a safe place for employees to express themselves 
  • Maintains the ability to autonomously handle employee issues while regularly collaborating with ESD and other executives/managers

  • Management skills - able to supervise multiple employees, and carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, counseling and coaching employees to success; addresses complaints and resolves problems
Technical skills
  • Familiarity with multiple programming disciplines ex:
    • Perl
    • Javascript
    • JSON
    • Python
    • PHP
  • Experience with Linux system administration
  • Education/Experience - Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Four+ years experience in software development
  • Two+ years experience in system administration
  • Four years of successful management experience with a focus on teams or other related experience
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrums teams
  • Travel - Local and/or overnight travel, some by interstate air, may be required

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Ability to work in an office environment. Specific abilities required by this job include: Near vision; hearing; ability to transport oneself as needed throughout the day; ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal, for extended periods of time; manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination); repetitive arm/hand movements

cPanel is a 24/7 operation and nontraditional or extended hours (including weekends) may be required occasionally
