Job description

The Director of Development Operations is responsible for organizing and removing impediments from the development process for cPanel products. Essentially this person is charged with building the cPanel development staff with the best people to continue to build successful products. 


Essential Functions: 

• Provides leadership and direction for the Development, User Interface, Quality Assurance, Documentation, and Scrum Master departments, directly or indirectly through managers

• Ensures that cPanel products are developed and perform to expectations by creating standards that are reviewed and approved by product owners, functional managers, and executives 

• Ensures each release is:

  • published with all related documentation 
  • tested with the standards set by the release team, managers, and executives 
  • delivered in the stated timeframe  

• Drives initiatives and strategies for departments and respective teams that organizationally contribute to long-term operational excellence 

• Designs, updates, and maintains cPanel products and systems related to those products:
  • cPanel/WHM 
  • build and distribution systems 
  • other related products and systems  
• Contributes professional knowledge and analysis to company databases  
• Adheres to the policies and procedures of the company 

• Exemplifies the Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Collaboration and Follow-Through 


Leadership and Management Responsibilities:  

• Proactively seeks to improve departments under supervision, including provides employees specific goals and objectives, and provides guidance on how to achieve them 

• Responsible for developing department budgets, forecasting financial needs, and meeting company financial objectives 

• Timely follow-through on communication internally and externally including email, tickets, and one on one meetings 

• Displays ongoing empathy and appreciation to employees and earns the confidence of the department by understanding the needs of the employee and department, while providing a safe place for employees to express themselves 

• Maintains the ability to autonomously handle employee issues while regularly collaborating with ESD and other directors/managers  

Eligibility Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent in development/operations experience • Five+ years of Linux/BSD/*nix system troubleshooting or a related certification (RHCE) 

•  Five+ years of project management or related experience 

•  Five+ years in a management role reporting to the executive level 

• Advanced knowledge of Linux/BSD/*nix based operating systems, their underlying components and web related services: Web Servers (apache, LiteSpeed, etc), SQL Servers (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc), Mail Servers (Exim, Sendmail, etc.), DNS Servers (BIND), Linux Filesystems. 

•  Advanced knowledge of Perl: Regular Expressions, MVC, OO or other organized programming practices, Perl best practices, Usage of CPAN modules 

• Expert understanding of Scrum methodologies and Agile practices 

• Proven track record of building and leading collaborative teams to produce significant, measurable results 

•  Travel - Periodic local, domestic, and overseas and overnight travel will be required, some by interstate air • Schedule Flexibility - frequently able to be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (by cell)

Planning and Time Management: Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize and to use time effectively and able to successfully work under tight project deadlines; accomplished manager of time and stress as well as possessing the ability to delegate effectively 
Adaptability: Able to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events 

Business Acumen: Demonstrates good judgment and strong skills in achieving maximum organizational performance and efficiencies 

Problem Solving Skills: Ability to operate as effective tactical as well as strategic thinker; excellent and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills; able to apply independent judgment when needed as well as consult with and provide insightful analysis in a team setting 

 


 Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Ability to work in an office environment. Specific abilities required by this job include: Near vision; hearing; ability to transport oneself as needed throughout the day; ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal, for extended periods of time; manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination); repetitive arm/hand movements 

 

       • cPanel is a 24/7 operation and nontraditional or extended hours (including weekends) may be required occasionally
