The Technical Writer is responsible for developing and editing technical and administrative documentation for the organization. Additionally, Technical Writers at cPanel are directly involved in Product Development by contributing an end user perspective to the design and by providing text and descriptions for user interface components. The Role
  • Develop technical product documentation including technical articles, white papers, help files that appear in-line with company software, and user documentation for both customers and employees.
  • Maintain cPanel's documentation and ensure it's up to date and usable.
  • Proofread blog posts and technical papers, as needed.
  • Review current documentation on an ongoing basis and make strategic recommendations for improving it.
  • Creation of help files and videos that are used on the website and within the product.
  • Participate on a Scrum Team, ensuring that new features are given adequate documentation, as well as providing feedback on UI copy and design.


The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences we’re looking for

  • Attention to detail- able to accomplish tasks accurately with concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small
  • Oral Communication - able to speak clearly and effectively in positive or negative situations; able to speak with and ask questions to subject matter experts, such as developers, technical analysts, and quality assurance analysts.
  • Written Communication- able to clearly and concisely explain complex technical data in a simple way for non-technical audiences; able to concisely explain technical data to technical audiences; able to display meticulous attention to detail; able to edit work for spelling and grammar; utilize Global English with ease.
  • Comprehension skills- able to understand role-based scenarios; able to think as a user
  • Planning/Organizing skills- able to prioritize work activities, use time efficiently, and work through large projects in a self-motivated manner
  • Adaptability- able to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and able to handle frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
  • Computer knowledge- strong knowledge of electronic communication systems, word processing software, and navigating the Internet
  • Problem solving skills- able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully; able to apply independent judgment on regular basis in making decisions
  • Interpersonal skills- able to interact with co-workers and customers in a professional and effective manner
  • Educational/Experience -
    • Degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related field
    • Two years technical writing and software documentation experience preferred

You will be ahead of the game if you have any of the skills or knowledge listed below:

  • Web hosting industry knowledge or equivalent
  • Basic Linux Operating System knowledge
  • Experience in an Agile development environment
  • Experience with Confluence, Wikis, and HTML
  • Conceptual understanding of Content Management Systems
